May Featured Artist: John Warren

The Nova Cafe is featuring art by John Warren, AKA Dizmal, this month.
John Warren was born in 1982 in the small mining town of Rock Springs, Wyoming. Growing up on the outskirts of town, he was limited to certain sources of entertainment; mostly creating his own. He drew from comic books, movies and television, applying his own dark touches to established ideas, which lead to the creation of his own unique style.
Warren’s art progressed through high school where he focused on photorealism and portraiture. Excelling in representational art supplied a solid foundation of skill that motivated him to continue making art through college.
He attended four years of university in Wyoming, then moved to Bozeman, Montana where he received his Bachelor’s degree in printmaking at Montana State University in 2007. Along with his degree he acquired the moniker “Dizmal” due to the dark undertones in of his work.
His art has been featured in numerous group exhibitions throughout Wyoming, Montana and Northwestern Washington such as the Montana Munny Raiser sponsored by Kidrobot Toy Company, I Want Your Skull, a nationally published zine, Bomb Snow magazine, as well as in many successful solo exhibitions.

The Nova hosted an art reception for Warren, AKA Dizmal, on Friday, and will be featuring his art work all month. To see more of Dizmal's work, visit his Etsy shop, or follow him on Twitter. And be sure to stop by the Nova Cafe during May to check out his art in person and enjoy a delicious meal.
